Anna Wu has recently launched a personal project called The Portrait Party, and I was lucky enough to attend the very first one! In Anna's word, the idea behind the Portrait Party,
...is very simple. I gather a small group of people, we throw ourselves a little party, and I take portraits of everyone. I come across so many people who say they could really use an updated headshot, but instead of just having a huge group of photographers and other people show up to get and take photos, I wanted to keep it very small. We each contribute what we can to the party and get the benefits of networking without the pressures of being in a huge group of strangers. For me, I get to test out different lighting techniques or ideas for portraiture and hone my craft too.
The other talented women who attended were Amanda of Amanda Vidmar Design (floral design), Praise of ComePlum (photo & design), Rachael of Ruby and Rose (event planning & design), and Farrah of Spirit Makeup. Each of contributed something from our expertise to the afternoon, which was such a fun and relaxed way of working with no pressure!

What a bunch of beautiful, powerful bosses! Spending time with each of these ladies was an inspiration to me and reminder of how hard working small business owners are. It made me think of how important it is to connect with others and support everyone working their asses off to do what they love.
